Rise Inclusive Youth Project

Due to the closure of the Simma Africa Art Studio due to the COVID19 pandemic creatives attached to the organization found themselves jobless. They were forced to stay home, and this led to most members facing SGBV. For some, there were established mechanism for coordination around GBV and Injustices faced by minorities programming in their host communities whereas for others there were not.

With Funding from Hivos East Africa, Simma Africa is implementing a production grant. The persons engaged in the project are creative's from Refugee Host Communities around Uganda, they are mainly Fashion designers, Photographers, Videographers, Artists. They are double minorities in that they are sexual minorities as well. Being low-income earners, they have faced various difficulties since the initial Lockdown in March 2020 to-date. The content they are sharing about their different experiences shed light on the injustices we face as minorities and creative's because with the disruption of our regular income generating activities as Creative's, we have been forced to adapt to the new normal some engaging in less than desirable activities and others thriving in online spaces, documenting all these variations and recommendations and real-life stories is the basis of the documentary.
